Have a break & celebrate who you are.

At Kitkat, we’re committed to encouraging individuality and self expression. And as a brand that’s been encouraging people to have a break for over 85 years, we also value encouraging them to take time and celebrate their identity. That’s why in February of 2022, we launched a 2-year partnership with Toronto based 2SLGBTQIA+ organization, Friends of Ruby.

Friends of Ruby's mission is to support the progressive well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. Together, we want to celebrate individuality and self-expression by encouraging the world to have a break and Celebrate Who You Are.

The partnership included financial support of the Friends of Ruby mental health programs and the release of a limited-edition KitKat® bar, which was available for the month of February just in time for the Chosen Family Day. This was a one-of-a-kind ruby chocolate bar that featured special packaging designed by the Friends of Ruby team. All proceeds were donated to Friends of Ruby.

Later in 2022, the partnership continued with the launch of 2 more limited-edition KitKat® Bar for Pride Month and the holiday season, that both celebrated individuality, self-expression, and self-love. Once again, all proceeds from both bars were donated to Friends of Ruby to support their youth programs.

Moving into June of this past year (2023), we had the privilege of marching alongside Friends of Ruby in support of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community at the Toronto Pride Parade. In addition, we dropped another limited edition Pride Bar, to not only have a break, but to also #CelebrateWhoYouAre.

We are so proud to be partnered with such an amazing organization and look forward to continuing to support and empower people of all identities.

The support system that is created through Chosen Families fosters an environment that promotes kinship, belonging and celebrates layered identities. Friends of Ruby facilitates spaces for LGBTQI2S youth to express themselves and find community. We are thrilled to collaborate with KitKat® to reiterate the value and need of Chosen Families.
